Buying a new computer not only gives you a new and exciting way writing letters, resumes, organizing, games etc,
but also opens up a whole new world to communicate with friends around the corner, or around the world.
We often talk to our daughter and her family, who are in New Zealand, as if she just lived around the corner.
You will need extra software to achieve this, fortunately it is free and is fairly easy to set up.
We will look at the three most popular messaging programs and you can decide on which, or both to suits your needs.
MSN Messenger.
Msn Messenger/Windows messenger, supplied by Microsoft is a very good chat/communication software package.
It is very easy to download and very easy to use. It has a lot of features such as voice chat if you have
a microphone, file and photo transfer abilities, and sits well with the new computer user. You can add
contacts (your friends) very easily and be able to see exactly when they are online, then it is just a
matter of just chatting away. CoastPC.info recommends MSN Messenger for the new user. You can download
the software at the bottom of this page.
Yahoo.
Yahoo, Is another programme that is used to chat/communicate with family and friends. It is very easy to download and has lots
of features to make your internet time fun and enjoyable. You can share files, show photos, play games with your friends and stay connected to
Yahoo messenger on your mobil phone. You can download the programme at the bottom of this page.
ICQ
Icq, short for 'I Seek You' is another very good communication program. This one is a little harder to set up
but it is feature packed. It's latest version can even send messages to mobile phones. It has the abilities to be able
to chat and communicate as the others but is more secure, and once you get use to it, very easy to use. It is by far
the most popular chatting software, used all over the world.
Tip:-
Always read the online manual and understand
before installing the software. We also recommend using a free e-mail address to sign up with these programs.
When ever you give your e-mail address to an outside person or company, you risk the chance of being sent heaps
of unwanted e-mail advertisements (spam). You don't want this coming to your real address.
Tip:-
Both programs rely on you having an e-mail address and allocated number to use, so be very careful who you give these
to. There are unfortunately people who have been harassed by their number or address going to the wrong hands.
