Over a period of time your computer may appear to get slower, not work as good as it use to or just fail
to boot up. Most computer problems are never as bad as they first seem. We often get called to computer
break downs to find the power cords at the back of the computer, printer or monitor have just worked themselves
lose and therefore not letting the power through. If a problem happens with your machine always check
the power cords first.
Tip:-
With some monitors there is also a power cord to the back as well as the
wall outlet. Don't forget to check both ends. If you get a (Non-System disk or disk error) on the screen of your
monitor, this could just mean that you have left a floppy disk in the 'A drive' of your computer, remove it
and the machine should work properly. If the error message remains after that you will need to seek help from a computer technician.
Some of the software you buy needs the cd to be left in the cdrom to be able to use the software. Always make sure the cd
is handy or the program maybe inaccessible. (For example most of the new games must be left in the computer while playing.)
One sure way to cause your self a major problem is to use your computer while lightning is around.
Computers are full of sensitive components that are easily blown with power surges and such. always make sure your pc is turned off and unplugged
from the wall when storms are around.
Make sure you are not running out of space. Some problems with loading
on new software could be just don't have enough room for loading the program onto your machine. Click the 'my computer
icon and you will see a (C:) icon, right click it then 'properties' to see how much room is left on your
hard drive.
When your machine starts to run slower than usual it may need just a good 'defrag' (see our 'maintenance page').
Don't panic if your computer fails to work or appears to have a problem as it maybe something very simple.
We now look at some warning signs our computer gives us, helping us to know if something is failing.
Computer Warning Signs!
Your computer sometimes gives you warnings signs of
impending failure. Some things to watch out for are noisy fans (could mean a cpu is running hotter than it should),
flickering monitors, (could mean a suspect monitor or may just mean your monitor needs a service), your computer is showing
the incorrect time, ( may mean the internal battery is going flat and needs a new one), programs not responding properly,
(could mean a virus or a corrupt file in the program). Your printer stops printing properly, (could mean your printer is running out of ink or could mean it needs a service.)
Sticky keyboard keys( means you need a new keyboard as the keys wear out after constant use),
blurring monitors (this problem usually occurs with older monitors and a service may fix them, but usually
mean the monitor is on its way out).
These are just a few warning signs to look out for.
